The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, formally established Rodalies de Catalunya on Monday, the company set to start managing the rail service in 2027.

The constitutive act was held at the Palau de la Generalitat, symbolizing the agreement between the Catalan Government and the Central Executive for the transfer of railway network management. The new company, which will be operational starting in 2027, already has its management team defined.
Minister Sílvia Paneque has been appointed president of Rodalies de Catalunya, while the position of CEO falls to Òscar Playà, the current general director of the TMB metro network.

"This new company represents a paradigm shift, but for this to happen, it must rely on the best professionals."

The board of directors is completed by prominent figures such as former ERC deputy Marc Sanglas and the commissioner for the transfer of Rodalies, Pere Macias. Renfe has also proposed the inclusion of Raquel González, representing the unions.
One of the first routes the new company will manage will be the R1 line, crucial for the mobility of the Maresme and Selva regions, as it connects these areas directly with the Barcelona metropolitan area.
