After an intense weekend featuring the initial processions, the focus of Mataró's Holy Week shifts to the Peramàs neighborhood. There, the Salesian Brotherhood La Verónica organizes the Salesian Holy Tuesday Procession, scheduled for March 31 at 7:00 PM. This is the latest addition to the calendar of celebrations and, despite its recent inception, is already establishing itself as an important event.
The procession, which starts from the Salesian School of Mataró, aims to offer a simple and accessible expression of faith, deeply rooted in the spirituality of Saint John Bosco. The route, encompassing streets such as Puig i Cadafalch Avenue, Josep Montserrat i Cuadrada, and Plaça de Catalunya, is characterized by an atmosphere of contemplation and respectful silence, accompanied by music that reinforces the message of the Passion.
This second edition thus reaffirms the brotherhood's commitment to recovering a presence that had been interrupted for years and is now settling into the Mataró Holy Week calendar.
Concurrently, on the same Holy Tuesday at 9:00 PM, the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in the Basilica of Santa María hosts the Vestition of Our Lady of Sorrows. This ceremony, heir to an ancient tradition, is inspired by the 17th-century baroque ceremonial and stands as one of the most unique and symbolic acts of Mataró's Holy Week.
During the event, members of the Venerable Congregation of Sorrows dress the image of the Virgin, attributing a specific meaning to each piece of clothing related to the seven sorrows of Mary. The celebration, which merges faith, history, and culture, also includes the admission of new members, following a ritual inspired by the tradition of the Servite friars.
