The Mataró City Council has launched a recruitment process to add 15 new officers to the Local Police force, bringing the total number of staff to 184 by the end of 2026.

Of the 15 positions, four are newly created, while eleven will fill vacancies left by retirements or transfers. This expansion is part of the Urban Safety Pact, which sets a strategic goal for the capital of Maresme to have 200 officers by 2030.
The increase in personnel follows years of pressure from police unions and opposition parties, who argued that the current force was insufficient for Mataró's size. Critics pointed out difficulties in covering shifts and maintaining a consistent police presence in local neighborhoods.
Applications are open until April 1st. Candidates must pass a series of evaluations, including theoretical exams, physical tests, and psychological assessments, followed by training at the Institute of Public Safety of Catalonia.
