The Idescat statistical institute has released the 2023 Territorial Socioeconomic Index (IST), revealing a deep inequality in Mataró, with a gap exceeding 80 points between the most affluent and vulnerable areas.

The socioeconomic map of the Maresme capital shows two clearly defined poles. While the Centre-Eixample and Via Europa-Nou Parc Central exceed 120 IST points, neighborhoods like Rocafonda and Cerdanyola Sud remain at values of 40.70 and 46.40 respectively.
The lowest index in the city is located in Rocafonda, specifically between Carretera de Mata and Pau Picasso street. In contrast, the wealthiest sector is found in the Centre, between La Riera and Plaça de les Tereses, with a value of 121.10 points.
Overall, Mataró has an index of 92.5, placing it below the Catalonia average (100) and lower than similar metropolitan cities such as Granollers (97.2) or Terrassa (98.1).
