The Mataró City Council has confirmed that no fines have been issued during the first three months of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ), which has been active since December 9, 2025.

Despite the sanctioning regime being in effect, authorities in the Maresme capital have not detected any infringing vehicles in the restricted historic center. This first phase covers 0.2 km² and overlaps with the existing pedestrian zone, which helped drivers adapt to the access rules beforehand.
Monitoring is conducted via cameras that scan license plates to check for DGT environmental stickers. Fines are set at 200 euros, though they can be reduced to 100 euros if paid within the first 20 days.
Current regulations allow residents without stickers up to 52 days of access per year. By 2028, the zone is expected to expand to the city's ring roads and the N-II highway, also affecting vehicles with the 'B' environmental label.
