The 112 emergency service received the alert at 16:59 on Sunday. Despite the deployment of two ambulances from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), medical teams were unable to resuscitate the swimmer, who was found floating in the water.
With this case, the number of people who have lost their lives in Catalan pools since June 15 reaches eight. This figure is in addition to the 12 deaths recorded at beaches and three others that occurred in rivers or reservoirs during the current summer season.
Given the high number of incidents, Protecció Civil has reiterated the need to exercise extreme caution in all swimming areas. The agency reminds the public that if a swimmer is seen in difficulty, they should immediately contact the lifeguard service or call the 112 emergency number.
