Premià de Mar Develops Diagnosis to Enhance Disability Inclusion

The Premià de Mar City Council has completed a diagnosis on the situation of people with disabilities in the municipality, aiming to design future actions for inclusion and equal opportunities.

The document, developed with the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council, involved active participation from professionals, community organizations, and members of the Disability Council (Taula de Discapacitat), contributing their experience to the process.
According to the data collected, Premià de Mar has 2,118 people with disabilities, representing 7.3% of the total population. The study indicates a higher prevalence among the elderly, but also a significant incidence in the younger population.
The predominant disabilities are physical and those related to mental health, with a moderate degree (33%-64%) being the most common among the analyzed cases.
The diagnosis identifies key challenges in employment, housing, mobility, and accessibility. However, it also positively highlights the local associative fabric, the gradual implementation of accessibility measures, and the consolidation of the Disability Council as a participatory forum.
The City Council anticipates that this document will serve as the foundation for establishing strategic lines for municipal disability policies in the coming years, striving for a more accessible and inclusive municipality.
