A striped dolphin was found stranded this Thursday at noon on Ponent beach in Mataró, requiring an emergency rescue operation by local authorities.

The Agents Rurals responded to a 112 emergency call from a local resident. Following the protocol for protected marine fauna, they guarded the dolphin until experts from the CRAM Foundation arrived to take charge of the situation.
The dolphin, a member of the Stenella coeruleoalba species, was moved to the maritime promenade, attracting the attention of many passersby. This species is the most common cetacean found along the Catalan coast, usually preferring deeper offshore waters.
While these dolphins are frequently seen in the Mediterranean, it is unusual for them to appear so close to the shore. Experts note that although the species is relatively abundant, it remains vulnerable to marine pollution and overfishing.
