TecnoCampus researchers Marcos Faúndez and Rubén Copado met with neurologist Lola Díaz-Feliz in Gran Canaria to advance the study of Parkinson's disease.

Researchers from the Signal and Data Processing research group at TecnoCampus, Marcos Faúndez and Rubén Copado, visited neurologist Lola Díaz-Feliz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. She is a specialist in movement disorders at Hospitales Universitarios San Roque. The meeting served to review ongoing scientific collaborations and explore new joint research opportunities.
The collaborations focus on applying advanced online handwritten signal processing techniques to the study of Parkinson's disease. Digital handwriting analysis allows for the recording of parameters such as speed, acceleration, and pen pressure, providing objective information on fine motor skill alterations associated with the disease.
A key aspect of the visit was exploring new lines of collaboration to study gait alterations in people with Parkinson's using inertial sensors. These devices enable quantitative analysis of movement characteristics such as rhythm, regularity, asymmetry, and stability.
Applying digital signal processing techniques to this data could lead to the development of new tools for characterizing and monitoring motor symptoms of Parkinson's, complementing existing work in digital handwriting.
The collaboration between Faúndez and Díaz-Feliz has already resulted in several international scientific publications, including studies published in 2024 in the journal Parkinsonism & Related Disorders and in September 2026 in Movement Disorders Clinical Practice.
This meeting strengthens an interdisciplinary collaboration between neurology and signal processing, highlighting TecnoCampus's commitment to health-applied research and the development of technologies to improve the assessment and monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases.
