Despite being in the midst of the Easter school holidays, the Department of Education has acted swiftly to fill the position of Director General of Subsidized and Private Schools. Aguilar's appointment became effective this Wednesday, just days after Xavier Güell submitted his resignation last Monday.
Toni Aguilar, born in Mataró in 1970, brings extensive experience in educational management. Prior to his new role, he served as Director of Groups and Communities at Escola Pia de Catalunya, where he had previously been strategic and school support director. He also held the position of managing director at Escola Pia Santa Anna Mataró.
A philosophy graduate, Aguilar has been a member of the Catalan Education Council, representing the leadership of subsidized schools. His career also includes serving as a board member for the Professional Association of Educational Services of Catalonia (APSEC) and participating in the Board of Trustees and Senate of TecnoCampus Mataró.
“"He is a specialist in strategic management and leadership of educational center networks, in the supervision of institutional projects and educational governance."
This change occurs within a context of significant movements in the Department of Education. In less than six months, two key areas have seen a change in leadership. Before Güell's resignation, last October, Josefa Beltran stepped down as secretary of educational improvement, being replaced by Ignasi Giménez. Furthermore, the Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, has been on medical leave for two months, with the Minister of Presidency, Albert Dalmau, assuming her duties.
