The trial against an osteopath and chiropractor accused of twelve counts of sexual abuse against patients began on Monday, January 19, at the Provincial Court of Barcelona, for incidents in Canet de Mar and Mataró.

The accused, who worked as an osteopath and chiropractor, allegedly committed sexual abuse against twelve patients, half of whom were minors at the time of the incidents. The events took place in consultations located in Canet de Mar and Mataró between 2008 and 2020.

The Prosecutor's Office requests a sentence of 46 years in prison for the accused, in addition to 84 years of disqualification and compensation ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 euros for moral damages and psychological injuries.

During the first session of the trial, the Provincial Court of Barcelona agreed that the victims should testify behind closed doors to protect their privacy. Ten of the affected individuals ratified the abuses on Monday, separated from the accused by a screen, while the remaining two will testify on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution's brief, the man used massage sessions as a pretext to perform fondling on intimate areas, even when the consultation was for back pain. In some cases, it is also alleged that he inserted his fingers or penetrated patients without prior warning, justifying it as supposed therapeutic treatments or energy channels.
