The Malgrat de Mar City Council has approved its accession to the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística (CPNL) as a consortium entity, an incorporation that will be effective in 2027 and will require ratification by the CPNL Plenary.

This accession establishes a framework for collaboration between the council and the Centre de Normalització Lingüística (CNL) del Maresme. Working meetings have already begun to develop a plan to promote Catalan in the municipality. As a consortium entity, the City Council will be part of the CPNL's governing bodies and will participate in the CNL del Maresme's Centre Council.
The relationship between the CNL del Maresme and the Malgrat de Mar City Council predates this accession. Currently, the CNL has already carried out Catalan language training activities in the municipality, the Voluntariat per la llengua program, linguistic advisory services, and collaborates in various local initiatives, such as the Taula per la Llengua and the Fira d'Ocupació i Formació.
Malgrat de Mar has a population of 19,630 inhabitants, of whom 2,770 (14.11%) are foreign nationals. With this new accession, there are now 141 public administrations that are part of the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística, including the Generalitat de Catalunya, 100 city councils, 37 county councils, and the provincial councils of Barcelona, Girona, and Lleida. The CPNL aims to promote the knowledge, use, and dissemination of the Catalan language through its 20 linguistic normalization centers and 143 points of attention throughout Catalonia.
