The Culture Department of Sant Cebrià de Vallalta has spearheaded the creation of the municipality's first giants, Josep Antoni Mata i Copons and Caterina de Copons i d’Armengol. The initiative, dating back to 2019, culminated in their presentation during the Festa Major opening speech, held in a packed pavilion.
The Councillor for Culture, Anna Rodón, explained that the selection of characters was based on documenting historical figures linked to the municipality. Mata i Copons is noted for his defense of the Catalan language and ideology, while Caterina de Copons i d’Armengol is recognized for her active and mediating character.
The figures were created by Toni Mujal, a renowned giant builder from the Maresme region. For Mujal, creating the giants for Sant Cebrià, the only town in the region that previously lacked its own giants, held special significance. The giantess Lourdes, from Arenys d'Amunt, served as the godmother to the new figures.
The presentation was attended by various neighboring giant groups, including those from Vallalta, Sant Pol, and Sant Iscle de Vallalta. The mayor, Albert Pla, and Councillor Anna Rodón encouraged residents to form a new giant group to bring the figures to life.
During the opening speech, the prize for the Festa Major poster contest was awarded to Claudia Muñoz, and a tribute was paid to Fina Roig Pueyo, a municipal worker retiring after 45 years of service.
