Approximately forty units from the Generalitat Firefighters have been working since early afternoon on a forest fire in Moianès that already affects fourteen hectares, of which 13.6 are forest and the rest agricultural. The fire has necessitated the confinement of the municipality of Sant Quirze Safaja, and a mobile alert has been sent to phones in the area to inform residents. The Infocat plan has been activated.
Emergency personnel are hopeful of stabilizing the flames during the afternoon, provided weather conditions remain favorable. According to Robert Zahera, head of support for the firefighting operation, the first two-thirds of the right and left flanks are "in the process of stabilization." The forty units are acting forcefully on the head and the latter part of the left flank to prevent the fire from spreading towards the town.
Zahera emphasized the importance of maintaining the preventive confinement while awaiting the fire's evolution and urged the public to consult official media for updates. He highlighted that this is a "topographical" fire, where the main challenge for extinction efforts is the terrain's orography.
Although the exact causes have not yet been officially determined, Zahera indicated that the fire started at a low point near the first track, close to the BV-1341 road, which has been closed due to the flames. The mayor of Sant Quirze Safaja, Carles Lupiáñez, added that the fire began roadside, near the L'Illa campsite, suggesting possible origins such as a poorly extinguished cigarette butt or a firecracker.
The operation involves 31 ground units and 8 aerial resources, prioritizing the containment of the flanks, particularly the most active section of the left flank heading towards the municipality. This rocky area also slows down the progress of the extinction lines.
