The investiture took place at the Town Hall plenary session, where Chavalera received seven votes in favor. Opposition groups, Junts and CUP, also presented candidates: Amanda Esteller Subirats (Junts) received three votes, and Lluc Ulldemolins (CUP) received two. The non-attached councilor cast a blank vote.
As mayor, he has offered an extended hand to the opposition, requesting consensus to face the municipality's key challenges, such as the new budget and projects linked to flood damage.
During his speech, the new mayor expressed respect for former mayor Joan Roig and paid tribute to Alfons Montserrat. Chavalera, who previously served as Economy and Finance councilor, highlighted the need to address stormwater management in Alcanar and repair damages caused by recent storms in Alcanar Platja, particularly in the Llop ravine.
Born in 1993, Marc Chavalera becomes Alcanar's youngest mayor at 32, and the first “casenc” (from Les Cases d'Alcanar) to hold the office. He holds a degree in Economics from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili and has worked as an advisor for the Diputació de Tarragona. Prior to the investiture, Neus Sancho Sanz (PSC) served as acting mayor, declining to run for the position to honor the governing pact.
