The facility, located on Cervantes street, occupies the former retirement home and represents a step forward in dignifying social care. This improvement will allow the organization to expand its programs and services, reaching more citizens in need.
“"No matter how much we work for prosperity, if it is not shared, it is useless."
The mayor of Amposta emphasized the importance of collaboration between public administrations and the third sector to build a more cohesive and less individualistic society. This synergy is fundamental for addressing current and future social challenges.
The president of Amposta Red Cross highlighted that the new space dignifies the organization's work and, especially, the care provided to individuals. Currently, the entity assists over 2,000 people, including users referred by the City Council's Social Services and newcomers with basic needs such as housing, food, or employment.
The president of the Diputació de Tarragona praised the “invaluable and tireless” work of the Red Cross in favor of the most vulnerable groups, emphasizing the essential role of the third sector in reaching those whom institutions cannot always directly assist. The building, spanning 436 square meters across two floors, features new offices and multipurpose rooms to facilitate the development of social programs, such as the “Reinforcement and Effort” project, focused on equal opportunities for children and young people.
This project was made possible through cooperation among various entities. The Amposta City Council, through the Municipal Social Services Foundation (Fussmont), ceded the space in 2022 for a period of 50 years. Additionally, the Diputació de Tarragona provided a grant of 160,000 euros in 2024 for the building's renovation, with the total cost of the works being close to 195,000 euros.
