The municipality has highlighted the importance of these measures, especially given the rising energy prices. The renovation of public lighting, the installation of a biomass boiler, and the use of solar panels have been key to these results.
“"With the rise in energy prices, the renovation of public lighting and the implementation of systems such as the biomass boiler or the solar panels that we have carried out in recent years has proven to be of vital importance."
One of the most notable actions has been the comprehensive renovation of public lighting. Since July 2016, the City Council launched a project of over 3.3 million euros to progressively replace conventional lighting systems with LED technology throughout the city and in isolated areas. This project, structured in six phases and executed over several years, received support from the European FEDER fund, with a contribution of 1.25 million euros.
According to a study conducted within the framework of this European funding, the modernization of lighting has led to a substantial reduction in energy consumption. While between 2015 and 2018 annual consumption exceeded 2,500,000 kWh, in 2022 it stood at 1,191,159 kWh, coinciding with the project's completion.
This downward trend has been consolidated thanks to the continuation of measures, such as improvements in municipal facilities with the modernization of electrical systems and the renovation of control panels. The incorporation of the biomass boiler and the installation of solar panels in municipal sports facilities have also contributed significantly to reducing electricity consumption and promoting renewable energies at the local level.
