The municipality of Freginals, located in the Montsià region, began construction in February 2026 to install an electric charging point, boosting sustainable mobility in the area.

The initiative represents a step forward in energy transition and the reduction of polluting emissions for the municipality. The project is part of the Smart Rural Ebreterritori – Electromobilitat program, promoted by the Consorci de Polítiques Ambientals de les Terres de l’Ebre (COPATE) and co-financed with Nuclear Transition funds.

"It will put Freginals on the map of electric charging stations and sustainable mobility, while allowing us to offer modern services to both citizens and visitors."

The main goal of the Smart Rural Ebreterritori project is to create a public charging network to reduce the lack of existing infrastructure in the Terres de l’Ebre. In total, the installation of 52 fast and semi-fast charging points is planned.
All these points will be connected to a centralized digital platform. This technology will allow COPATE to monitor their use and operation in real-time, ensuring the efficiency and optimal management of the new electromobility network.
