The Alcanar City Council approved this Wednesday the general budget for 2026, which at 19 million euros becomes the highest in the history of the municipality to date.

The proposal moved forward in an extraordinary session with seven votes in favor from Esquerra Republicana and PSC councillors. Meanwhile, JUNTS and CUP abstained, and the non-attached councillor cast the only vote against the 2026 accounts.

"Today, we present a budget that must respond to all those needs that the residents of Alcanar have."

The investment chapter is the most significant part of this budget, with an allocation of 7,318,084 euros, representing 38.5% of the total. Key projects include road paving, the second phase of storm drains in the school area, and the restoration of the Sant Jaume ravine.
Opposition groups expressed mixed views. While Meritxell Ulldemolins criticized the debt and lack of future vision, Marta Sans from CUP described the accounts as realistic but lacking ambition. Amanda Esteller from JUNTS warned about the risks involved in executing such a high volume of investments.
