The Alcanar City Council has announced an ambitious project to restore the final stretch of the Sénia river estuary, known as Sòl de Riu, which will take place during 2026 and early 2027.

The initiative, presented on World Environment Day, aims to improve and conserve this natural space, considered one of the municipality's main attractions and included in the Inventory of Wetlands of Catalonia.
The first phase of the project will include the development of an action plan, the cataloging of existing biodiversity, and a pilot test for controlling exotic species, with the support of the Associació l'Aube.
Subsequently, the second phase will involve the restoration of the old riverwalk, the adaptation of the parking area, the improvement of information panels, and the revitalization of the surrounding vegetation. The goal is to enhance the municipality's natural appeal to promote workshops and activities.
To carry out these actions, the council has secured an initial grant of 11,351.26 euros from the Impuls Plan of the Provincial Council of Tarragona.
