The action focuses on properties built on urban land located in a high-risk area for floods and flash floods. The measure addresses the vulnerability detected in the Alcanar Platja area, especially following material damage caused by torrential rain episodes during 2021, 2023, and last October.
The decision was made based on the findings of the Taula Tècnica dels Aiguats, a body promoted by the local council with the collaboration of the Generalitat and technical support from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. The main objective is to implement structural measures to ensure the safety of people and property in the face of extreme weather events.
This project is part of a protocol of intentions signed last December between the council, the Generalitat, and the Agència Catalana de l'Aigua. The agreement seeks comprehensive flood risk management in the Llop ravine through the construction of hydraulic infrastructure and the restoration of natural spaces to transform the surrounding urban environment.
