The goal is for the city to become the sole institution in the Tarragona region offering these university-level studies, complementing the existing health science programs.
The municipal agreement will initiate the public bidding procedure for the concession of the space, known as the Municipal Auditorium, currently housing EUSES. The new studies are projected to commence in the 2027-2028 academic year.
The project includes an investment exceeding one million euros to expand and adapt the university facilities. In exchange for the concession, an annual fee of approximately 71,000 euros is established, which will be offset by the construction of the expansion during the first 20 years. This investment will ultimately revert to the Amposta City Council.
Mayor Adam Tomàs highlighted that the approval also regularizes the administrative status of the building, a matter that has been controversial since 2011. The vote was supported by Esquerra, while Junts per Amposta and the non-affiliated councillors abstained, and Som Amposta voted against.
The introduction of the new degree would make Amposta the only center in the Tarragona region offering Dentistry studies, supplementing the intermediate and higher-level health programs currently provided by the Institut Ramon Berenguer IV.
