Government spokesperson Sílvia Paneque defended on February 15 the management of ES-Alert mobile warnings issued during the severe windstorm affecting the Terres de l'Ebre region.

The executive addressed complaints from mayors in Montsià and Baix Ebre, where wind speeds reached 146 km/h in Mas de Barberans. Paneque argued that alerts are sent with rigor as soon as localized information becomes available, prioritizing public safety over administrative delays.

"At every moment, the decisions that had to be taken were taken, always thinking about people's safety."

The Generalitat sent emergency notifications to southern counties on Saturday morning, later extending them to the Pyrenees and Alt Empordà. Officials linked the intensity of these weather events to climate change, noting that extreme phenomena often require immediate action from Civil Protection services.
