Government spokesperson Sílvia Paneque defended on Sunday the management of ES-Alert mobile warnings during the severe wind episodes that struck the Terres de l'Ebre region this week.

Local mayors in Montsià and Baix Ebre expressed dissatisfaction after Mas de Barberans recorded winds of 146 km/h on Saturday. They argued that the Generalitat failed to implement the same level of preventive measures seen during a previous alert on Thursday.

"At every moment, the decisions that had to be taken were taken, always thinking about people's safety."

Paneque explained that localized alerts are sent as soon as specific data becomes available. She noted that extreme weather events linked to climate change often do not provide enough lead time for a more gradual activation of Civil Protection protocols.
