The small municipality of La Galera, in Montsià, becomes a meeting point for pottery and ceramics artisans until Sunday, with the celebration of the Argila fair, attracting loyal visitors.

With over three decades of history, the Argila fair has established La Galera as a national and international benchmark in the pottery and ceramics sector. The event gathers around sixty artisans, including participants from Hungary, France, Portugal, and Morocco, as well as from various regions of Spain. Among the exhibitors are also prominent local artisans, such as Terrissa Joan Cortiella from La Galera.
The event is a point of interest for many residents of the Terres de l'Ebre and visitors who take advantage of the May long weekend to explore the town's streets. Attendees can purchase decorative and household items, discover unique creations, and find gifts, especially for Mother's Day.
Younger visitors have the opportunity to participate in workshops to create their own clay pieces, while adults can visit the Terracota Museum, located in the Town Hall itself. This space hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions, including this year's works by ceramics students from the Municipal School of Plastic Arts of Alcanar.
As is tradition, the fair's organization offers a commemorative collector's piece for sale. This year, it is a traditional fridge water jug, a work by the local master potter, with 60 unique, signed, and numbered units. This piece, dating from the 1970s, is crafted in several stages, molding the body, mouth, spout, and handle separately before joining them.
Among this year's new participants is an artisan from Alfareria Benabarre (Huesca), who has expressed satisfaction with the public's response. An artisan from Saisan Ceràmica, with more experience at the event, highlighted the importance of having a thematic fair exclusively dedicated to ceramics and pottery in the region, where visitors show great interest. The public turnout was already notable on Friday morning, filling the car park despite the threat of rain.
The fair will continue throughout the weekend, offering a creative and authentic atmosphere where potters and ceramists shape a wide repertoire of objects that combine functionality and artistic value.
