The Mossos d’Esquadra have dismantled one of Catalonia's largest hachish logistics hubs in Montsià. Police located nine tons of drugs hidden inside iron boxes in an industrial warehouse in Ulldecona. This unprecedented concealment method aimed to hinder police checks. The operation led to the dismantling of a criminal group involved in hachish trafficking, operating from various points in Catalonia and maintaining connections with organizations in Andalusia. The operation unfolded in three phases between November 2025 and May 2026, resulting in 10 arrests and several raids in Sabadell, Ulldecona, and Fuengirola.
The investigation began in November 2025 following a vehicle accident under suspicious circumstances in Ulldecona. Officers found the vehicle with damage consistent with a collision and bullet impacts, discovering a firearm and several unfired rounds inside. Concurrently, a nearby industrial warehouse with its door ajar was detected, containing large quantities of metal boxes hiding hachish. This warehouse served as the criminal group's logistics center, the largest found in Catalonia to date.
Following these events, a police lockdown and search operation was initiated, as individuals were suspected to be hiding within. An overturned and abandoned van was found on a nearby rural road, leading to the arrest of four individuals. The primary hypothesis was a drug-related assault by a group attempting to steal the drugs stored at the Ulldecona logistics center.
Throughout the investigation, overseen by the Court of First Instance Number 1 of Amposta, a criminal network specializing in the management, storage, and distribution of large quantities of hachish was identified. Over 9,000 kilograms of hachish were found stored in custom-welded iron boxes, an unprecedented method designed to evade police checks. The Generalitat Firefighters were called in to cut open these boxes. It is estimated that at least twelve tons of hachish were stored at the logistics hub, with an additional 3,000 kilograms having been previously transported.
The final phase of the investigation, launched in May 2026, involved a simultaneous operation in Fuengirola, Sabadell, and Ulldecona, coordinated with the National Police in Andalusia. New group members were identified, including one based in Fuengirola and several in Sabadell. During the raids and searches, electronic equipment, phones, and other items of interest to the police investigation were seized.
