The Església Nova in La Ràpita will be the venue, next Friday, May 29th, at 7 PM, for the presentation of the book Converses a la Ràpita. The work, written by Edward Carter (a pseudonym for Eduardo Sánchez), will feature the participation of the town's mayor, Xavi Reverté, and cultural activist Xavier Miró.
The book is a compilation of 56 interviews published over years in Ràpita magazine. Through them, Eduardo Sánchez has given a voice to a wide range of local people: artists, sailors, writers, historians, doctors, teachers, shipbuilders, and cultural activists. This human mosaic aims to portray the collective memory and the unique identity of La Ràpita.
The author, with over 30 years of publishing local interviews, highlights the diversity of profiles included. "There is a great variety of Ràpita residents and professions," he states, adding that these books "gain importance because people will know what La Ràpita was like today" in twenty or thirty years.
Among the conversations, unique stories and well-known personalities are highlighted, as well as less common professions. Sánchez particularly emphasizes the interview with the town's gravedigger, conducted at the municipal cemetery, defending it as a profession "as honest and honorable as any other".
The book, spanning over 500 pages, is considered a living testimony of the town and its people, preserving La Ràpita's memory through "many trades and many ways of life".
