Final adjustments are currently underway on the infrastructure, which include surface treatment of the pavement, installation of signage and intelligent road safety systems, as well as the placement of urban furniture. Additionally, tree planting is being carried out at various points along the route.
The new route, suitable for cyclists and pedestrians, is approximately 27 kilometers long and will establish a direct connection between the existing greenway and the coastline. This extension will link the two most emblematic natural parks of the Terres de l'Ebre: the Ports Natural Park and the Delta de l'Ebre Natural Park.
The works, which began in 2023, will culminate with a public inauguration celebration on April 18. Among the activities planned for this day, a route will allow participants to explore the new section of the greenway, either on foot or by bicycle, with organized departures from Amposta, Vinallop, Roquetes, and La Ràpita.
The expansion project has been promoted by the Diputació de Tarragona, in collaboration with the municipalities of Roquetes, Tortosa, Amposta, and La Ràpita. It has a total budget of 6.3 million euros, of which 5 million have been financed by the European Next Generation Recovery Funds, within the framework of the 'Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan' and the call for Sustainable Tourism Plans in Destinations (PSTD).
