The Government of the Generalitat has given the green light to allocate €11,706,059 for the construction of the future new institute in La Ràpita. This agreement, approved in the Executive Council, includes the formalization of the agreement with the City Council and the authorization of the multi-year expenditure necessary for the investment. The funds will be distributed over three years: 4 million euros in 2030, 4 million in 2031, and 3,706,059 euros in 2032.
The mayor of La Ràpita, Xavi Reverté, described the day as "very important" for the municipality, highlighting that the approval represents a decisive step towards making a reality a project that the City Council has worked on intensely. Reverté emphasized the work of conversations, negotiations, and management with the Government to find a viable formula for the new educational center, recalling the commitment shown during the minister's visit last December.
The final agreement between the Generalitat and the City Council is scheduled to be signed before Christmas. From that point, progress can be made on the procedures for the execution of the works. Although the payment schedule extends until 2032, the City Council is exploring the possibility of advancing the start of the works by initially covering the cost, through the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) with the guarantee of the Generalitat and the commitment of the Department of the Presidency to cover the interest. The Secretary of Local Governments, Xavier Amor, clarified that this funding will not come from the Generalitat's general budgets but from this specific formula.
Reverté stressed the importance of starting the works "as soon as possible," but with "responsibility and without compromising the City Council's capacity." He highlighted that the sound management of municipal resources allows for this economic effort and for advancing the project with rigor, thanks to the guarantee and commitment of the Generalitat.
The mayor reiterated that the agreement is the result of sustained work and that, while not the end of the road, it represents an "enormous and very important step." He stated that the important thing is the agreement that allows progress and responds to a long-standing demand from the educational community of La Ràpita. The City Council has also advanced municipal procedures, such as the modification of the POUM to designate the land for educational use.
"We committed to achieving the new institute, and today we can say we have taken a huge step towards making it a reality," concluded Reverté, assuring that they will continue working until the works are a reality to provide the educational community with the facility it needs.
