The Association of Residents of Balaguer's Historic Center has taken steps to combat the neighborhood's physical and social degradation. Following previous actions like “Let's Light Up the Darkness” and “Unclogging the Drains,” which have yielded minor improvements, the association continues to propose initiatives to dignify the area.
One of the most evident problems concerning citizens is street cleanliness. Despite the efforts of municipal workers, incivility and insufficient cleaning lead to a constant state of unsanitary conditions, with litter in the streets, urine on building facades and entrances.
To address this issue, a cleaning event has been organized for July 24th at 4 PM in Major, d’Avall streets, and Sant Jaume square. This date, the eve of Saint James' Day, was strategically chosen to coincide with the traditional Festa dels Fanalets (Lantern Festival), which will take place from 7:30 PM onwards through the same streets.
With the collaboration of the Association of Merchants of the Historic Center, residents of Balaguer are invited to participate in this intensive cleaning. Water hoses and brooms will be provided to ensure the streets are clean for the procession.
Taking advantage of the summer heat, the cleaning with water hoses is anticipated to be a festive prelude to the procession, offering a refreshing and participatory activity for all families.
