The municipal plenary session of Balaguer approved in July, unanimously, a joint motion from the Junts, Treballem per Balaguer, and ERC groups. The proposal aims to limit nighttime commercial hours to improve coexistence and residents' rest.
The municipal groups argue that selling alcohol late at night leads to public gatherings, causing noise, dirt, and uncivil behavior. Therefore, the motion urges the Paeria to initiate the administrative process to establish mandatory closing for these establishments at 9:30 PM.
In the same plenary session, a motion from the opposition was approved, calling for an immediate reinforcement of citizen security and an expansion of the Guardia Urbana staff. The proposal suggests increasing the force from the current 16 officers to between 22 and 24. It also includes the provisional relocation of police facilities to the third floor of the Casa de la Paeria while the new barracks are built, for which a clear execution timeline has been requested.
Additionally, the council gave initial approval to the air conditioning project for the nursery ‘El Patufet’ with a budget of €230,000. Approval was also given to the project for the completion of the animal shelter and the construction of a cattery, as part of the PUOSC.
