The Catalan Government has put out to tender the informative and environmental impact study for the improvement of a 21-kilometer stretch of the N-260, the Pyrenean Axis, between Xerallo and El Pont de Suert, in Alta Ribagorça. This action includes analyzing the feasibility of a new six-kilometer corridor, featuring a two-kilometer tunnel, to bypass the Port de Perves.
“"to resolve a core mobility issue and respond to a demand from the residents of the Alt Pirineu"
The new corridor project has an estimated budget of 280 million euros and is part of the agreement signed with the Spanish State to improve the Pyrenean Axis, with an execution deadline set for 2033. Simultaneously, conditioning works have been tendered for the Eix de Comiols (road L-512) between El Pont d'Alentorn and Vall-llebrera, in Noguera, with a 22 million euro investment set to begin next autumn.
Furthermore, the Catalan Government will promote improvements on the C-28, which connects Pallars Sobirà with Val d’Aran via the Port de la Bonaigua. This February, the study for widening the road near Sorpe (Alt Àneu) will commence, backed by 10.5 million euros, and works worth three million will be tendered for avalanche protection at the pass.
Finally, an agreement was announced with the Ministry of Transport to unblock the deployment of the public fiber optic network along the Pyrenean Axis. The first section to be developed will be between Puigcerdà and La Seu d’Urgell (47 kilometers), with the project expected to be drafted by March.
