The Cobirgy biogas plant project, promoted by Copenhagen Infraestructure Partners (CIP) in la Sentiu de Sió, has completed administrative procedures and plans to start construction during the first half of 2026.

The project developers reported receiving the definitive environmental authorization from the Generalitat, adding to the urban planning approval obtained last summer. CIP estimates that construction work will last approximately two years.
The plant is designed to process about 500,000 tons of organic waste annually, including pig slurry, cow and calf manure, poultry litter, slaughterhouse waste, and other non-hazardous industrial organic waste. The promoters confirm having over 350 farmers adhered from the regions of Noguera, Pla d'Urgell, and Urgell.
According to CIP, more than 80% of the slurry managed will come from farms located within a 15-kilometer radius of the future plant. They also emphasize the use of cutting-edge technology, including an air treatment and deodorization system to "prevent any odor emissions outside the facilities," with transport carried out in sealed tanker trucks.
Despite the administrative progress, opposition groups and four municipalities in Ponent filed two administrative lawsuits before the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) a week ago. The plaintiffs plan to request precautionary measures to prevent the developers from starting construction in early 2026.
