The Republican party, which currently holds three council seats in Vic, has designated a well-known local figure to head its list. This decision is part of a strategy to make the city a strategic point for the party in the upcoming elections, following the example of other municipalities where they have gained greater prominence.
The chosen individual previously served as a councillor for ERC between 2011 and 2018, achieving the party's best results in Vic in 2015, with five councillors and 21% of the votes. During their term, they spearheaded the “coexistence and security” department, a pioneering program replicated in several municipalities, focusing on intensive mobilization to address local issues.
“"It's a challenge I accept, I'm eager, and we have work to do."
After a period away from institutional politics due to personal reasons, dedicated to their legal profession, the party leadership proposed their return. The idea was formalized with the approval of the national leadership, who saw their “coexistence and security” model as a strategic direction for the municipal elections. Indeed, they have advised the Diputació on this matter in recent months.
The local ERC Vic section is expected to endorse the candidacy at an assembly scheduled for May 13.
