The town of Manlleu is in shock after five teenagers aged between 14 and 17 lost their lives on Monday night due to smoke inhalation during a fire on Montseny Street.

The tragedy occurred in the l'Erm neighborhood, specifically in a small rooftop storage room of a residential block. The victims were using the space as a regular meeting point. According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, the youths died from inhaling dense smoke. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, which started in a room lacking proper ventilation.

Mayor Arnau Rovira has declared three days of official mourning, describing it as the darkest day in the town's history. The Antoni Pous i Argila and del Ter high schools have received psychological support from emergency services to help students cope with the loss of their classmates.
