Several educational centers, including the Margarida Xirgu Institute in L'Hospitalet and three in Vic, have expressed their intention to withdraw from the Generalitat's pilot plan that involves the presence of unarmed Mossos d'Esquadra officers for conflict mediation.

This measure, which has generated significant controversy, led to a demonstration last Monday, April 27, where teachers and students expressed their rejection. Educational unions indicate that, in addition to the already positioned centers, three high schools in Vic are expected to request their exclusion from the program soon.
More than 200 entities have rejected the initiative, arguing that it can stigmatize vulnerable students and foster racist attitudes, especially against the immigrant community. A teacher from one of the involved centers highlighted in a press conference that the measure has generated insecurity and had direct consequences, such as racist targeting with far-right graffiti and posters outside the institute.

"The police model benefits the far-right narrative and the stigmatization of the migrant population, and we must be a safe institution for our students and be able to meet their needs in the best possible way."

From the Department of Education, a minister defended the plan, emphasizing that it is not a punitive or surveillance model. For his part, the president of the Generalitat recalled that the trial is voluntary, time-limited, and subject to evaluation. However, the Assembly of Workers of the Margarida Xirgu Institute has issued a statement thanking the support received and harshly criticizing the Department of Education, stating that the minister is not telling the truth about the voluntary nature of the plan, as their center was forced to participate.
Despite these criticisms and the opposition from the faculty boards of four high schools (the Margarida Xirgu in L'Hospitalet and the Jaume Callís, La Plana, and Comtat d'Osona in Vic), the Department of Education assures that, so far, it has not received any formal request to abandon the pilot plan from any of the 14 participating centers, according to ACN sources.
