Catalonia will experience a significant weather change this weekend. After days of intense heat, a cooler, more unstable air mass will bring showers and storms, although the temperature drop will be temporary.

The weather forecast for Catalonia indicates a notable shift heading into the weekend. Following days characterized by high temperatures, humidity, and torrid nights, the arrival of a cooler and more unstable air mass will signal a return to more typical mid-August thermal values. This change, however, is expected to foster the development of showers and thunderstorms across various regions.
Friday is anticipated as a transition day. After potential early morning showers in the central coast and the Pyrenees, the morning will feature skies with high and medium clouds. Cloud cover will increase from late morning, with developing clouds in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and eastern areas. In the afternoon, instability will rise in the northeast quadrant, bringing showers to the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, possibly extending to the southern coastal and pre-coastal areas by evening. Precipitation will be light to moderate, with variable accumulations, though locally heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms. The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya has issued warnings for rainfall intensity and alerts for 14 counties, including Ripollès, Garrotxa, Osona, Pla de l'Estany, Gironès, Selva, Vallès Oriental, Baix Llobregat, Garraf, Alt Penedès, Baix Penedès, Tarragonès, and Baix Camp. Temperatures will begin to drop, particularly inland.
Saturday is set to be the most unstable and refreshing day. The thermal drop will be significant, with more pleasant nights and a generally cooler atmosphere. The first half of the day will see a mix of sun and clouds, but cloud cover will rapidly increase again from midday. Showers and thunderstorms, potentially strong, are expected in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, Osona, Ripollès, Garrotxa, Tarragonès, and the Terres de l'Ebre. Maximum temperatures in most counties will not exceed 28 to 30 °C.
By Sunday, the weather is expected to stabilize across most of the territory. Sunshine will dominate the coast, pre-coast, western plains (Ponent), and Terres de l'Ebre, with some morning low clouds along the coast. Summer showers will become more restricted and isolated in the eastern Pyrenees during the afternoon. Temperatures will remain steady, with a slight generalized increase that could reach 32 °C in the western half and parts of the northeastern quadrant, consolidating a bearable summer climate.
