Construction work for two new tennis courts in L'Esquirol has started this October, relocating the facilities of the Club Tennis L'Esquirol to the La Pollancreda area.

The L'Esquirol City Council has awarded the company Ingeniería Constructora Manresana, S.L. (ICMAN) the contract for the construction of two new tennis courts in the La Pollancreda area. This project, with a total investment of €337,664.66, will allow the relocation of the old facilities of the Club Tennis L'Esquirol, which were on municipal educational land and will now be occupied by the expansion of the Institut Escola el Cabrerès.
This relocation is the result of months of collaboration between the council and the sports entity. The club's Board of Directors unanimously accepted the municipal proposal to locate the new courts on the designated sports land in La Pollancreda, next to the Municipal Pavilion, an urban plot zoned for sports and recreational use according to the current Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM).
The Club Tennis L'Esquirol, with 50 years of history and approximately 150 members, sees its future secured with modern facilities. The original courts date back to 1974.
Last August, the site survey for the work was carried out in the presence of the mayor, Àlex Montanyà i Rifà, the first deputy mayor, Francesc Hernández i Gallego, and the managers from ICMAN. The construction, which began this October, is expected to take three months to complete, finishing around the end of the year.
The funding for the work (€337,664.66, VAT included) is distributed as follows: €200,000.00 from the Generalitat de Catalunya (PUOSC), €104,381.91 from the Diputació de Barcelona (PGI), and the remaining €33,282.75 from municipal funds of the L'Esquirol City Council.
The project includes a comprehensive renovation of the La Pollancreda site. A platform supported by rockery walls approximately 3 meters high will be built due to the area's slope, and oak trees will be planted as an environmental mitigation measure. The two adjacent courts will have an asphalt surface, high-water-evacuation acrylic mortar finish, perimeter netting, and high-efficiency LED lighting with 8 columns of 8 meters.
The club's headquarters on Osona street will remain, and users will be able to use the changing rooms of the Municipal Pavilion. The project also reserves space for the future construction of the club's new social headquarters.
During the works, safety measures will be implemented in the sports area: noisy work will be restricted to permitted working hours, access to the construction zone will be prohibited for pedestrians, and the entry of heavy machinery will be channeled exclusively through Osona street with a material storage area on the La Pollancreda esplanade.
The L'Esquirol City Council apologizes for any inconvenience these works may cause, emphasizing the significant benefit they will bring to the community and sports enthusiasts in the town.
