Residents of the Can Garriga urbanization in Seva (Osona) report structural damage and health problems caused by weekly quarry blasts, while the Civil Guard investigates a corruption scheme and environmental illegalities at the nearby landfill.

The walls of dozens of houses in Can Garriga shake almost once a week due to routine blasts at the Àrids Xuclà quarry, located about 200 meters away. These vibrations have caused scattered cracks and damage to homes, according to the community of owners, which filed a complaint in March 2025.

For more than 25 years, we have endured the unspeakable amidst so much blasting. This prolonged exposure causes stress, sleep disorders, and other health problems for many neighbors.

The residents' discomfort is aggravated by the proximity of the Fitó deposit, a landfill that, according to an investigation by the environmental unit of the Civil Guard, the Seprona, accumulates all kinds of irregularities. The uncovered plot includes alleged contamination and tax evasion.
The Seprona report presented to the court in Vic maintains that, according to the general urban plan of Seva, both the quarry and the landfill would be illegal, as regulations prohibit extractive activities within one kilometer of a populated area. Agents define the case as a “non-prescribed permanent crime.”

It is inhumane that we have to put up with these circumstances.
