The Montesquiu Town Council hosted an emotional event yesterday to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Catalan independence referendum, which saw 599 votes in favor and 14 against in the municipality.

The day began at the Teatre del Centre Obrer Recreatiu with a concert by Picot, who performed folk and Catalan rumba songs. Subsequently, speeches from the Town Council and the Assembly evoked the moments of that day, with the singing of Els Segadors concluding the first part.
The commemoration continued at the new democratic memory space in Montesquiu. There, the meaning of the murals was explained, and a corten steel plaque, created by Pere Casanovas and Miquel Llach, which names the space, was inaugurated.
To conclude the event, candles were lit around the October 1st sculpture, a gesture to remember the victims of violence during the referendum day.

Thanks to everyone who accompanied us to keep the memory of October 1st alive.
