Orís hosted the award ceremony for the ALEO 2026 awards, an initiative by the Local Energy Agency of the Osona Regional Council (ALEO) that rewards the actions of municipalities and local entities in the transition towards a more sustainable and efficient energy model.
In the small municipality category (under 2,000 inhabitants), the Municipality of Orís has been recognized for the greatest reduction in energy consumption during 2025. The Municipality of Seva has received the award for medium-sized municipalities (over 2,000 inhabitants) for its most significant energy consumption reduction in the same period.
The award for Pioneering Action in the Osona region has been granted to Sant Quirze de Besora for its project to publicly recover a water jump for hydroelectric energy production, becoming the first municipality in Catalonia to promote its recovery in this way. Finalists in this category were the municipalities of Prats de Lluçanès (integration of photovoltaics in sports facilities), Santa Eulàlia de Riuprimer (presence sensors in public lighting), and Tona (energy transformation of the municipal building).
Albert Marcé, CEO of ALEO, highlighted the consolidation of the awards and encouraged municipalities to continue advancing in the energy transition. Marçal Ortuño, president of the Osona Regional Council, emphasized the need for continuity and rigor in the energy transition, as well as ALEO's role in supporting municipalities.
The event also included a visit to the works of the future photovoltaic park on the controlled landfill in Orís. Arnau Basco, mayor of Orís, and Ester Coma, president of the Osona Urban Waste Consortium, presented the project, which will produce approximately 2,560 MWh annually, equivalent to the energy consumption of 580 families, and will supply renewable energy to the Waste Treatment Center.
ALEO reviewed its year of activity, reporting that the overall energy consumption of the region's municipalities increased by 2.1% in 2025, breaking a downward trend. Currently, there are 235 self-consumption photovoltaic installations executed in Osona, of which 126 are active. It was also warned about potential energy price increases of 30-40% in the coming years.
