The Linguistic Normalization Center (CNL) of Osona participated last Tuesday, October 20th, in Vic, in a conversation about accessible literature, where it presented the reading reinforcement workshops it organizes quarterly.

The event, held at the Abacus store in Vic, was titled ‘Catalan Literature Within Everyone's Reach’ and brought together professionals from the fields of literature and education. Speakers included translator Gemma Redortra, LIC advisor Aleix Solà, and the director of CNL Osona, Assumpta Grabolosa, moderated by Montse Ayats, editor at Eumo Editorial.
The role of literary adaptations as a tool to promote reading and the learning of the Catalan language was highlighted. The CNL of Osona explained the functioning of its reading reinforcement workshops, which are held periodically in Vic and Manlleu, and more sporadically in Centelles and Torelló. These workshops complement Catalan courses, aiming to strengthen reading comprehension, expand vocabulary, and promote reading habits.
The workshops, primarily aimed at students at levels A2.2, A2.3, B1, and C1, last for one hour weekly and are led by volunteers from the Voluntariat per la Llengua (Volunteer for the Language) program. Participants read excerpts from works and discuss their impressions.
This quarter, the CNL of Osona has scheduled five reading reinforcement workshops that will begin next week and run until November 26th. The selected readings include Tom Sawyer, Marcus Marc i la ruta del cacau, Contes sorprenents, Carta d’una desconeguda, and La gata, the first four adapted for basic levels.
Translator Gemma Redortra detailed the adaptation process of Frankenstein for the Portals collection, emphasizing the goal of adjusting the language while maintaining the essential elements of the original work.
