The Government of Catalonia will launch a pioneering medical drone corridor this summer between Tremp and Lleida to transport biological samples and medicines faster.

The route will link Pallars Regional Hospital and Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital. The flight time is estimated at 40 to 45 minutes, significantly shorter than the 75-minute drive currently required. This initiative aims to improve healthcare equity for rural and mountainous areas.

"The use of drones improves travel times, reduces CO2 emissions, and enhances the quality of biological samples upon arrival."

The project involves the Blood and Tissue Bank and technology partners like T-Systems. Following successful pilots in Garrotxa, which saw a 70% reduction in transport time, the government plans to expand the network to Sort and Vielha in the near future.
