The La Pobla de Segur council has announced that work will soon commence to give new life to one of its most emblematic heritage elements: the plane tree in Plaça de l'Arbre. This centenary tree, planted around 1870 and which had to be topped due to severe damage, will be transformed into a natural sculpture called L’Arbre de la Vida (The Tree of Life).
The decision to act was accelerated last September following the fall of a large branch, which highlighted the tree's precarious health. To ensure public safety, the City Council intervened and initiated a participatory process with residents.
The final design for L’Arbre de la Vida is the result of citizen proposals and will conceptualize the life cycle and community roots, evoking the moments experienced under its shade for over 150 years.
This artistic transformation is part of a broader urban project for the comprehensive renovation of Plaça de l'Arbre, funded by the Pla de Barris i Viles (Neighborhoods and Towns Plan). The aim is to modernize the public space and eliminate architectural barriers, creating a more accessible and welcoming environment.
