Led by the CTTI and the Department of Health, the project aims to improve response times and territorial equity for delivering blood bags, biological samples, and medical equipment in the Pyrenees region.
“"Improving travel time enhances the quality of biological samples because avoiding road transport reduces hemolysis."
The drone corridor will cut transport time from 75 minutes by road to approximately 45 minutes by air, reducing sample degradation by up to 50%. The initiative also boasts a 98% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional transport.
The project involves the Blood and Tissue Bank, T-Systems, and Pirineos Drone. Following technical validation, the service awaits final approval from the AESA aviation authority to begin regular operations this summer.
