A dozen businesses in Tremp, including restaurants, bars, and shops, have joined a campaign to strengthen the use of Catalan in customer service and internal communication, following a diagnosis conducted in 2024.

This initiative stems from a comprehensive analysis of the state of Catalan in Tremp's commercial sector, carried out during 2024, which identified areas for improvement. The main objective is to reverse the decline in the use of the language in sectors with direct and constant interaction with customers.
Participating establishments have already begun receiving training sessions, designed to refine both spoken and written Catalan. A specialized technician provides support to employees to improve the drafting of restaurant menus, price signs, and social media communications.

The technicians help workers to have sufficient tools with a basic vocabulary to be able to speak and attend to customers. The aim is for them to lose their fear of speaking Catalan to customers.

The program is the result of a collaboration between the Catalan language service of the Consell Comarcal del Pallars Jussà and the economic promotion department of the Tremp City Council. In addition to language training, the sessions also inform business owners about current linguistic regulations.
The plan's organizers have highlighted the positive response from merchants, who show a good predisposition to change. These actions are part of a broader transformation of the sector, influenced by generational change, business transfers, and the incorporation of new professionals.
