The Medical Emergency System (SEM) has temporarily relocated the medical helicopter based in Tremp to la Seu d'Urgell to ensure territorial balance following the termination of the contract with the previous operator.

The crisis with the former contractor, Eliance, led the Generalitat to formalize an emergency agreement with SAF Helicoptères. Currently, only three helicopters are operational in Catalonia, stationed in la Seu d'Urgell, Girona, and Reus, while the Móra d'Ebre base awaits reactivation in March.
Health authorities expect to launch a new definitive tender for the four medical helicopters by 2027. In the meantime, additional ground medical units have been deployed to maintain emergency response standards in the affected regions.
