Following a 2024 analysis of the state of Catalan in Tremp's businesses, which identified areas for improvement, an initiative has been launched to boost its use. This campaign already involves a dozen establishments, mainly restaurants, bars, and shops, which have begun receiving training to perfect both spoken and written Catalan.
A specialized technician provides support to employees to improve their oral expression and to correctly draft items such as restaurant menus, price signs, or social media communications. The main objective is to curb the decline in the use of the Catalan language in sectors that maintain direct and constant contact with customers.
The aim is for them to overcome their fear of speaking Catalan to customers.
This program is the result of a collaboration between the Catalan language service of the Consell Comarcal del Pallars Jussà and the economic promotion department of the Tremp City Council. Technicians provide participants with the necessary tools and basic vocabulary to serve customers fluently in Catalan, with the intention of fostering confidence in language use.
During the sessions, business owners participating in the campaign are also informed about current linguistic regulations. The initiative's organizers have highlighted the very positive response and willingness to change from the establishments. These actions are part of a period of transformation in the commercial sector, influenced by generational change, business transfers, and the incorporation of new professionals.
