The Esterri d'Àneu council has reported the poisoning of twelve cats and the severe illness of four dogs in the town to the Mossos d'Esquadra, after poisoned bait was found in various locations.

Since last Friday, the town of Esterri d'Àneu has been the scene of a regrettable incident that has led to the death of at least twelve cats and left four dogs severely ill, two of which are in critical condition. The events, which have caused great concern among residents, occurred due to the ingestion of poisoned feed and chicken pieces, strategically distributed in public spaces.
Given this situation, the town council has filed a formal complaint with the Mossos d'Esquadra and alerted the Rural Agents. The latter have collected samples of the found feed for analysis to determine the type of toxic substance used, which, according to initial indications, could be rat poison. The municipal brigade has carried out cleaning tasks at the points where the poisoned bait was located.

"We have reported the incidents and also informed the Rural Agents about what happened with the stray cats and some dogs."

A municipal spokesperson has issued a public announcement to warn citizens and request that pets not be allowed outside until the situation is under control. Likewise, they have requested neighborhood collaboration to inform the council if more dead animals are found. Despite the difficulty of finding the culprit, it has been reminded that animal poisoning is a crime punishable by fines.
The council has also reported that it is working on the creation of feline colonies and more efficient management of stray cats. Residents have expressed their alarm and concern for the safety of their pets, as the presence of poisoned food remains on the street has generated a generalized feeling of insecurity.
