A pair of skiers spotted and recorded a female bear accompanied by two cubs this Monday in the Tavascan area, located in Pallars Sobirà, confirming the animals' awakening.

The arrival of spring has signaled the end of hibernation for bears in the Pyrenees. Although the mountain peaks still have significant snow accumulation, the footage captured at the Tavascan ski resort shows the three bears running across the summit.
According to data from the Brown Bear Cross-Border Monitoring Group (GSTOP), there were 47 identified bears in the Catalan Pyrenees as of last April. During 2024, a total of 10 new cubs were born in Catalonia, showing a steady growth of the population.
